These guidelines apply to all students, staff, and other individuals who wish to access CCTV footage.

Requesting CCTV Footage

  1. Purpose of Request: Individuals must provide a clear and valid reason for accessing the footage, aligning with the enhancement of campus safety and security or the investigation of specific incidents.

  2. Authorization Process:

    • Requests for CCTV footage must be directed to the Security Officer.

    • The requester must fill out a CCTV footage request form, detailing the specific time, location, and reason for the request.

    • The Security Officer will review the request to determine its legitimacy and compliance with university policies.

  3. Access Control:

    • Only authorized personnel, as defined in the university’s SOP, are permitted to handle and access CCTV recordings.

    • Unauthorized access, including attempts to view or obtain footage without proper authorisation, will lead to disciplinary action.

Privacy and Ethical Considerations

  • CCTV footage will be used in a manner that respects the privacy rights of individuals and complies with legal and ethical standards.

  • Viewing of footage will be limited to the specific areas and times relevant to the investigation or inquiry.

Storage and Handling of Footage

  • CCTV recordings are stored securely and will only be retained for a limited period as defined in the retention policy, unless required for ongoing investigations or legal processes.

  • All handling and viewing of CCTV footage must ensure the integrity and confidentiality of the records.

Disciplinary Actions

  • Misuse, alteration, or unauthorized disclosure of CCTV footage will result in disciplinary action, which may include termination of employment, legal action, or academic penalties for students.
