APFace
With an emphasis on security and safety, APU uses Facial Recognition Technology (APFace) at selected entrances such as Exam Hall. APFace primarily uses the photo submitted during student registration for facial recognition.
However, if the system is unable to consistently recognize your face based on that photo (due to quality, lighting, angle, or facial expression), you will be requested to submit a new photo that adheres to the guidelines below.
APFace Enrollment Procedure
To ensure accurate and consistent identification through the APFace facial recognition system, all users must follow the updated photo submission guidelines below. These standards help optimize system performance and minimize recognition errors:

For a seamless entry experience that use the APFace system such as to the exam hall, you need to enroll to the APFace with the following simple steps:

Students must open their mask to register their Facial.
Photo Specification:
Include a full face, front view, and open eyes.
✅ Photo Composition Requirements
The photo must present the full head from the top of the hair to the shoulders.
The face must show a natural, neutral expression or a gentle closed-mouth smile (no visible teeth).
A gentle smile with your mouth closed and not opened too widely helps maintain a friendly appearance while ensuring better accuracy for facial recognition.
You must be facing forward, with your head and shoulders clearly visible.
No sunglasses, hats, or any headgear that obstructs facial features (except for religious or medical reasons).
The background must be uniform and light-colored, preferably plain white or off-white.
Avoid shadows on the face or in the background.
Ensure even lighting and proper contrast; do not use beauty filters or enhancements.
The photo must be in color, in JPEG format, and have normal lighting and sharp focus.

Avoid opening your mouth too wide when smiling, as this can subtly distort facial features and reduce the accuracy of the facial recognition system.
Candid-style photos, selfies, or tilted head angles.
Poor lighting, strong shadows, low resolution, or pixelated images.
Filters or beautification apps that modify your appearance.
📲 How to Resize and Submit Your Photo
You may take your photo using your phone or computer, as long as it meets the above guidelines. If resizing is needed, here are recommended tools:
Desktop: Picasa, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Picture Manager (PC), iPhoto (Mac)
Online Tools: Web Resizer
Mobile Devices:
iPhone: Resize during upload (choose "Small" option).
Samsung: Use the Gallery app’s resize feature.
Other Android: Use available photo editor or resizing apps.
🛂 Review & Approval
All photo submissions will go through manual verification to ensure compliance with these guidelines. Approval time may vary based on submission volume.
Using APFace at Exam Hall Entry Points
At the screening station, stand in front of the camera and have your face scanned within seconds. Do lower your mask slightly for facial recognition purposes.
In the event that facial recognition fails, please go to the APU 's TechCentre located at Level 6, within the same day to get support to enrol to the APFace .
