MFA@APU, also known as APKey@APU's Multi-Factor Authentication solution, enhances the security of your online accounts by adding an extra layer of protection during the authentication process.

Understanding Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Traditional authentication methods rely solely on usernames and passwords. However, passwords can be compromised due to simplicity, reuse across platforms, or exposure through breaches. To mitigate these risks, MFA requires users to provide additional verification factors, making unauthorized access significantly more difficult.

MFA@APU Implementation

APU’s Technology Services Team has implemented MFA@APU for all APKey@APU accounts. Currently, MFA@APU is enabled for all Microsoft 365 cloud applications, providing robust account security.

Integrated with SSPR@APU (Self-Service Password Reset).
Supports multiple authentication methods for flexibility and ease of use.

Registration Process

To register for MFA@APU:

Complete your registration on the Self-Service Password Registration portal:
- Access Self-Service Portal
Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your preferred authentication methods.

Logging in with MFA@APU

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Sign In:
- Navigate to portal.office.com.
- Log in using your APKey@APU credentials:
  - Students: username@mail.apu.edu.my
  - Staff: username@apu.edu.my
Authentication Prompt:
- If using the Microsoft Authenticator app, you’ll receive a notification. Enter the security number displayed on your browser into the app to verify your sign-in.
Alternative Methods:
- If unable to use the app, select "I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now" .
  
  and choose another registered method (e.g., text, email, call, or security questions)
Access Granted:
- Upon successful verification, you’ll be directed to the Microsoft 365 products page.

Security Note: If you receive an unexpected authentication notification, immediately change your password using the Self-Service Password Reset service.

Resetting or Unblocking MFA@APU Access

Only authorised IT Administrators can reset or unblock MFA@APU to maintain account security.

Requesting Assistance:

Helpdesk Email: Send an email to assist@apu.edu.my from your registered personal email address. Include a detailed description of your issue.
TechCentre Visit: Visit our TechCentre at Level 6 for in-person assistance from our support staff.

Post-Reset Recommendations:

Review your security information.
Remove outdated authentication methods to maintain a secure account.
