VirtualLab@APU uses PCoIP and Blast Extreme display protocol by VMware to adapt to varying latency and bandwidth conditions. Therefore, the bandwidth differs depending on your use cases, i.e. using it for office productivity and using it for streaming video have different bandwidth requirements.

As recommended by VMware in their WAN Support article, we expect to handle 100Kbps to 2Mbps bandwidth for each user using the service. This will roughly translate to what you should expect for minimum bandwidth required as a user:

Average Bandwidth

Suitable Use-cases

50 - 150 Kbps

Basic office applications (no video and 3D graphics)

400 - 600 Kbps

Multi-displays, Microsoft Office and programming software (with simple 3D graphics and Aero)

500 Kbps - 1 Mbps

Software with bursts of display changes, seen in multimedia designing and CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software

>2 Mbps

Video streaming (Higher video resolution and/or frame rates will substantially increases the required bandwidth)
